Canada bans women from wearing Muslim veils during citizenship oath - Daily Caller

America’s northern neighbor has banned women from wearing the burka and niqab while taking their oath of citizenship.

Canada, known for its welcoming immigration policies, is now prohibiting any face coverings during citizenship ceremonies in order to ensure that those taking the citizenship oath are actually reciting it.

In the announcement, Immigration Minister Jason Kenney explained that the decision came as a result of complaints from lawmakers, judges and citizens who said they could not tell whether those with covered faces were saying the oath.

“All we ask of people is to fulfill the requirements of citizenship and to swear an oath before one’s fellow citizens that one will be loyal to our traditions that go back centuries. This common pledge is the bedrock on which Canadian society rests,” he said Monday. “That is why starting today, my department will require that all those taking the oath do so openly. From today, all persons will be required to show their face when swearing the oath.”

Kenney added that the act of taking the citizenship oath “is a quintessentially public act” to show that one is joining the “Canadian family.”

“To segregate one group of Canadians or allow them to hide their faces, to hide their identity from us precisely when they are joining our community is contrary to Canada’s proud commitment to openness and to social cohesion,” Kenney said. “It’s important to note that this is an expectation. If Canada is to be true to our history and to our highest ideals, we cannot tolerate two classes of citizens. We cannot have two classes of citizenship ceremonies.”

The question of Muslim veils has plagued many Western democracies that walk a fine line between the practical need for identification and allowing for religious expression. In April, France became the first European country to ban the burka in pubic places.

Canada’s decision, which took effect immediately, has been met with mixed emotions.

Abdullah Khan, a member of the North Shore Islamic Information Centre, told Canada’s The Province that a majority of Muslims would not push back against it.

“Islam is also flexible to accommodate these needs,” he said.

The acting executive director of The Canadian Council of American-Islamic Relations, Ihsaan Gardee, however, took issue with the decision, saying that it called into question the good faith of Muslims taking the oath. Further, it would force Muslim women to chose between their religion and their desire to become a citizen, Gardee said.

“If implemented, this decision will have a damaging effect on our democracy because it forces those who wear the niqab to choose between their religious convictions and adopting Canadian citizenship,” Gardee said.

The B.C. Muslim Association expects Muslim women will follow the new regulation, but takes issue with how the government characterized the ban.

“We feel that the government should have consulted experts on Islamic law before enforcing the regulation in order to understand the correct position of niqab in Islam. The minister’s remarks about niqab being a completely cultural practice are inaccurate and Islamic legal texts can be referred to in this matter,” said BCMA president Musa Ismail and BCMA religious affairs spokesman Mufti Aasim Rashid in a statement.

“Likewise the presentation of the regulations as a ‘ban’ or ‘imposition’ and the minister’s public comments about Muslim women’s previous practice as being ‘ridiculous’ or ‘frankly bizarre’ do not exude finesse and inclusiveness,” said the BCMA leaders.

Since the first edition hit newsstands in July, and widely reported by Turkish media already in vogue and Elle had surpassed the sales of 40,000 copies of the ship, its circulation.

But Islam is not a fad as tags. Â Â l Art Director, the concept of Islamic fashion Esra Sezis women modestly covering their bodies of Islamic ideas contradictory claims. "[The magazine] is meant only for women-conservative, to help guide them where they can combine what clothes, '" Sezis Turkish daily Sabah and August 20, said in an interview. "[I] could not be a short, there are Islamic fashion; N just details. "

Online social media forum, critics nevertheless argued that the glossy, high-end monthly "that the idea of a modest Muslim dress" to try and convert a prototype of a veiled woman reading Vogue-fashion victims spend thrift; Contrary to the Islamic ideology concept. Magazine photos in a professional model and Islamic clothing is characterised by regular readers.

"To try and squeeze into the modest Islamic dress fashion patterns in the Western lifestyle is absurd as trying to squeeze Islam", the reporter writes monthly in the magazine Genç Aysegül Genç. "If you already have to contribute to the ongoing degeneration of this magazine and I would like to minimalize the damage will occur, and it's a veiled girl with nature, as long as the answer to the question of how it is to find a beautiful and how to be a veiled girl thinking."

However, Chief Executive Officer of Tekbir Giyim Turkey's largest textile company entirely veiled women cooking is one of the first argument, and fashion to configure the hidden model in fashion shows and Islam are mutually exclusive in 1992.

"Our religion and the Quran instructs modest dress, and how you need to take care of any part of the body. But that's only constant: design and patterns change and evolution, and these changes will remain in the religious rules, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, "Mustafa Karaduman commented.

A more conservative, such as the Fatih district of Istanbul, for example, Islam provides a variety of boutique for women, but non-Islamic-oriented clothing stores easily dominates elsewhere.

Atay underline, however, Islamic apparel market is not an island unto itself. The interview covered women to sell only see most Islamic clothing in stores do not like shopping. Young women, in particular, prefer to mix and match, he said.

l of Mustafa Karaduman Tekbir Giyim pursued by his answer to the demand for the company. "In our interview with Designer â  l. We are not in line with the rules they are religious, as long as the young veiled women to appeal to the opposite on the design of the clothes. "

Now, picking up on some non-Islamic clothing company, claimed the trend indicator Atay. "Islamic clothing outside of the textile company began to ask for the report. They design items that meet the public, "Radikal said to women. "They no longer veiled women, a large group of potential customers are all understanding can not be ignored." Atay was the name of the company was not provided.

Bareheaded women in ads targeted in Muslim Chechnya - Reuters

Several businesses in Russia's Chechnya region were ordered this week to cover up the bare heads of women in their advertisements, in what a local government source said was the latest assertion of Muslim customs by the authorities.

A decade after Moscow drove separatists out of power in the second of two wars since the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union, the Kremlin relies heavily on Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov to keep insurgents in check and maintain a shaky peace.

But analysts and rights groups say that in return, the devout Sufi Muslim is allowed to enforce his vision of Islam, at times curbing women's rights and other civil freedoms guaranteed by Russia's constitution.

A band of men whom hairdressers described as being dressed in the uniform of local security forces stormed the "Edem" salon in the center of the regional capital Grozny, demanding they cover up the hair of two women in their advertisement.

"Authorities walked around the area, ripping off ads with women pictured in them. They told us that ads displaying women without headscarves are banned," said a 28-year-old hairdresser, who declined to give her name.

"We got scared so we covered them up," she said pointing to a large crimson ad outside where the black and blonde locks of two women in photographs had been plastered over with red tape.

The orders come on top of a spate of paintball attacks last year on women for not wearing headscarves on city streets in Chechnya, igniting ire from women who said being forced to dress a certain way violated their rights.

Kadyrov later said he was grateful to the attackers.

Four years ago he issued an edict that said women must don headscarves to enter state buildings. Rights groups say it is a violation of Russian law, but the edict is strictly followed.

Rights workers and some locals fear that Vladimir Putin's return to the presidency will strengthen Kadyrov's grip over Chechnya.

"There had never been this sort of treatment toward women on the government level before. This all started when Kadyrov came to power (in 2007)," said Raisa Borshchigova, 31, who was compelled to become an independent rights activist after she was shot at with paintball pellets.

A source in the regional government, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters that the attacks on advertisements had been ordered by local authorities.

But a spokesman denied Kadyrov had issued such an order.

"All advertisements in Grozny are in place. We didn't take a single one down, or order anyone to do so. Cowards are spreading lies about us," said the spokesman.

The state-funded Islamic Cultural Center, which is linked to Kadyrov and has openly spoken of its contempt for bareheaded women, denied involvement.

"It was terrible. About seven of them came in and said we needed to change our ad or we couldn't operate anymore," said Italian clothing store owner Mariana, adding she had also taped over the womens' hair.

But not everyone received warnings.

When a dentist at a central clinic returned one afternoon this week, he saw that his poster advertising a tooth whitening service had been destroyed, leaving a ring of blonde hair encircling a gaping hole that had once been a woman's face.

Dead Tree Alert: Mideast Meets Midwest in All-American Muslim - TIME

One reasonable definition of a good TV show is one that makes you see something familiar in a new way. That was particularly the case for me with All-American Muslim, a reality show debuting on TLC Nov. 13 and the subject of my column in TIME this week (subscription required, so pony up the dough). I was interested in the project for its subject, obviously—life in five suburban Muslim families, after the “Ground Zero mosque” controversy and various recent Islam-related freakouts (such as the charge that Campbell’s soup was trying to impose Sharia on us).

But what gave it special interest to me was the location TLC chose: the large Arab-American enclave in Dearborn, Michigan—about 30 miles from where I was born and raised.

As I write in the column, I knew about Dearborn growing up. My high school played the Dearborn Fordson High Tractors every fall in football. And I was vaguely aware that there was a large Arab and Muslim community there. (The two are not synonymous; the series doesn’t get into it, because of its focus, but there are also numerous Arab Christian immigrants in and around Dearborn from countries like Lebanon and Iraq.) But I didn’t spend much time there, so much of what’s in the series was as new to me as it will be to anyone watching it.

A lot of the material is fascinating, for reasons I get into at more length in the column: the role of women in the often-conservative community, the question of intermarriage, the religious differences between and within families. But maybe the most striking thing about the show is how ordinary it is: give or take a hijab and some rules about alcohol, these were the same Upper Midwest people I’d grown up around the first two decades of my life, fixated on high school football, speaking in the same flat-voweled, caaaar-and-baaaar accent. (It’s not quite the Fargo-style accent of Minnesota, but close to an outsider, and as I say in the column, maybe the most radical thing the series does is to show us Muslim women in hijabs who sound not unlike Michele Bachmann.)

To me, this is the significance of All-American Muslim: that it shows us mundane life among people whom TV and movies have generally shown only in the most exotic (and often threatening) terms. This is a reality show, so I’m not going to pretend it’s not edited for story and effect like any other, but it doesn’t play up the shock value of its subject. (When the series was announced earlier this year, some people were concerned—the way people always worry in advance about reality shows—that it would caricature Muslims a la Italian-Americans on Jersey Shore. Just the opposite—and because it isn’t overblown for entertainment value like a Real Housewives show, my guess is its ratings will be lower.)

Is that making a social argument? Sure, and one that’s worth making. When it comes down to it, the national debate over Islam hasn’t really been over “Are all Muslims terrorists?” or “Is Islamic extremism a legitimate danger?”—both of them straw-man arguments. It’s really about the implication—through the Sharia-law paranoia, through the idea that “peaceful Muslims” should oppose the Ground Zero project—that Islam is inherently incompatible with American and Western values, necessarily and essentially alienating.

To someone who believes that, I guess, simply making a TV series that shows Muslims going about ordinary Midwestern lives will be offensive. But to me, that kind of reaction is all the more argument for making this show.

Muslim women: Hell-bound? -Onislam.net

In my view, women issues are the real test for current Islamic reform. The reason behind this is that groundless and unfair differentiation between men and women is deeply embedded in many popular narrations and opinions that we inherited and considered to be part of our religion, while they are not. They are against what Islam itself is about, which is mercy, justice and equality of all humans.

To put my answer in a more organized framework, I find it necessary to make the following differentiations, especially in the area of women in Islam:

between a "popular" narration and an "authentic" narration of a hadith.between "Islam" and "Muslims".between Islamic "Shari`ah" and Islamic "madhhabs" (schools of jurisprudence).between the "scripts" and the "interpretation of the scripts."First, there are popular narrations that say that "Most occupiers of Hell are women," "Women are deficient in the mind and in their faith," "Women are crooked," "Your bad omen is in your woman," and so on.

Some of these narrations seem to contradict other narrations. Some others are either weak or were not transmitted accurately, i.e. the narrator transmitted the part that is at odds with other established narrations. Still, there are narrations that are misinterpreted by people.

Let me take one of these narrations and analyze its authenticity, as an example. Abu Hurairah (one of the Companions) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Your bad omen is in your woman, your animal, and your house" (Al-Bukhari). However, it is reported that `A'ishah, the Prophet's wife, refused Abu Hurairah's narration and said that the Prophet had said instead, "People during the jahiliyya (era of pre-Islamic ignorance) used to say that bad omens are in women, animals, and houses." (Al-Bukhari)

In terms of the Science of Hadith, `A'ishah rejected Abu Hurairah's narration on the basis of its content rather than its chain of narrators. Abu Hurairah is a great Companion, but he simply made a mistake in this narration, apparently he did not hear the full sentence, and he thought he did.

Here, we have two narrations honestly and accurately narrated by Al-Bukhari. However, they are clearly at odds and one of them should be rejected, no doubt about that. It is quite telling that most commentators rejected `A'ishah's narration and accepted Abu Hurairah's, even though she supported the meaning of her narration with a verse from the Qur'an, which says what means,

(No evil befalls on the earth nor in your own souls, but it is in a book before We bring it into existence; surely that is easy to Allah.) (Al-Hadid 57:22)

What is more is that another Companion, Mikhmar, supported `A'ishah's narration with a similar narration that says, "There is no such thing as bad omens." But Ibn Al-Jawzi (a great scholar of Hadith in the sixth century died in 597/1200), surprisingly, commented, "How can `A'ishah reject an authentic narration?" And Ibn Al-`Arabi (a scholar from Andalusia who died in 1148 CE), shockingly commented, "`A'ishah's rejection of the narration is nonsense." (Abu Bakr Al-Maliki ibn Al-Arabi, `Aridat Al-Ahwadhi (Cairo: Dar Al-Wahy Al-Muhammadi, vol.10, n.d.  p. 264.)

The great scholar Badruddin Al-Zarkashi wrote a book dedicated to `A'ishah's critiques to the other Companions' narrations. For further information, refer to Badruddin Al-Zarkashi's Al-Ijabah li 'irad Ma Istadrakathu `A'ishah `ala Al-Sahabah (The Answer that Cites `A'ishah's Amendments to the Companions' Narrations), ed. Saeed Al-Afghani, 2nd ed. Beirut: Al-Maktab Al-Islami, 1970.

Then, we should differentiate between Islam and Muslims. This is not necessarily meant to be in a negative sense. But it is crucial that we separate (as much as we possibly could) between the religion, Islam, and its followers, Muslims.

What Muslims did, or currently do, is not necessarily what Islam is about. Islam has a core that every Muslim must embrace. However, in addition to this core, the same religion, Islam, could manifest, and had manifested, in a variety of shapes and forms in various cultures. Some of these cultures had social structures that were generally bigoted against women, and truly sincere scholars have struggled to implement the Islamic values of justice and equality of human beings.

One example is the ban of Muslim women from entering mosques, despite the clear instruction from Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): "Do not ban the (female) creations of God from the mosques of God,"  (Al-Bukhari) and despite the fact that the Prophet lead the Prayers for many men and many women in his own mosque.

Another contemporary example is banning women from driving cars in some Islamic countries, despite centuries of similar practices by Muslim women starting with the Prophet's wife `A'ishah, who actually lead a whole battle over her camel (The Battle of the Camel). There are numerous examples on this area.

Similarly, it is also important to differentiate between Islam and the history of the Islamic world that could have its positive as well as its negative sides when it comes to women.

We, Muslims, have to admit that there is a lot of bigotry against women in the history of the Islamic world, which is simply un-Islamic, according to Islam's references and sources of legislation.

One example is the concept of "harem," in which a rich or powerful man basically imprisons a large number of women for his own convenience, in the name of concubines. We thank God that such non-Islamic customs no longer exist.

Another contemporary example is honor killings that are still taking place, sometimes "in the name of Islam," in some areas (like in nowadays Pakistan, Nigeria, and Jordan), despite being clearly against Islam and having no precedent in the Islamic law.

Additionally, it is necessary to differentiate between Islam and the politics of Muslims. Islam is a way of life that, naturally, includes politics and governance. However, political positions, even if they are taken based on certain Islamic values, are not necessarily part of "Islam" that every Muslim has to embrace. When it comes to women, there is a subtle but very strong link between many of the anti-women fatwas and certain political agendas.

The second important differentiation is between the Shari`ah and Islamic schools of law (Arabic: madhahib al-fiqh). The word Shari`ah has negative connotations in the English language because it is commonly used to refer to various corporal punishments used in some countries in the name of the Islamic law, which are usually, and unfortunately, applied to the weak and poor in these societies and do not apply to the rich or the politically powerful.

However, the word Shari`ah is used in the Qur'an only to mean a "revealed heavenly path or way of life" (Al-Ma'idah 5:48, Al-Jathiyah 45:18). So, everything about Islam is Shari`ah. It is supposed to be the Islamic "way of life."

Regarding the schools of fiqh, the word fiqh is used in the Qur'an and Hadith in various forms to refer to understanding, comprehension, and gaining knowledge of the religion in general (for example, An-Nisaa' 4:78, Al-Ma'idah 6:25, At-Tawbah 9:122). However, in Islamic schools of law, the word fiqh has been typically defined as, "the knowledge of practical rulings."

It is crucial to know that Shari`ah is revealed but fiqh is not. Shari`ah is what Allah said in the Qur'an and what the Prophet instructed every Muslim to do, but fiqh is the understanding of scholars, in various eras and geographical locations, of the revealed knowledge and their opinions in their attempts to apply the Shari`ah to (their) real life.

So, generally speaking, fiqh is subject to the society and circumstances that it was applied in, and does not (necessarily) represent Allah's commands, nor (necessarily) what we should apply in our current circumstances.

Of course, there are issues in Islam that are universal and every Muslim, regardless of where and how, should apply. We should consult the scholars of fiqh in these areas.

But I am talking here about the issues that concern changing circumstances and, especially, issues related to women, who, in my view, had suffered a lot of discrimination from a number of scholars — in contrast to the Islamic Shari`ah or revealed way of life.

The second related and important differentiation is between the Scriptures and the interpretation of the Scriptures. The Scriptures are universal, but their interpretations change with the change of time and circumstances.

However, there are limits on what could be valid interpretation. A valid interpretation, for example, cannot alter the meaning until it ends up implying something that is radically different from the obvious meaning of the script or the obvious tradition of Prophet Muhammad.

In this regard, it is necessary to understand how certain historical interpretations shaped the topic of women in Islam in the minds of many Muslims, without necessarily being true interpretations.

Therefore, especially in the area of women in Islam, it is important to make these differentiations between popular narrations and authentic narrations, between Islam and Muslims, between Islamic Shari`ah and Islamic madhabs, and between the scripts and the interpretation of the scripts.

Brother Mohsen Haredy, Reading Islam Consultant, added the following:

As for the hadith you quoted, it was narrated from `Imraan ibn Husain (a Companion of the Prophet) that the Prophet said, "I looked into Paradise and I saw that the majority of its people were the poor. And I looked into Hell and I saw that the majority of its people are women." (Al-Bukhari)

The Prophet was asked about the reason and he explained it, saying:

The Messenger of Allah said, "I was shown Hell and I have never seen anything more terrifying than it. And I saw that the majority of its people are women." They (the Companions ) said, "Why, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Because of their ingratitude." It was said, "Are they ungrateful to Allah?" He said, "They are ungrateful to their husbands and ungrateful for good treatment. If you are kind to one of them for a lifetime then she sees one (undesirable) thing in you, she will say, 'I have never had anything good from you.'" (Al-Bukhari)

Therefore, the reason explained in this hadith for their being in Hell is not that they are women, but the point is that they are ungrateful, a state in which men can also fall into.

Reading this hadith, there is a fundamental message that confirms that it is an obligation on the husband to take care of his wife and to treat her well. This kindness in treatment should be mutual, and just as the husband should be grateful for his wife's love, kindness, and companionship, the wife should also be thankful to her husband for his kindness and his efforts in looking after her. Each of them should acknowledge the efforts of the other, show gratitude, and repay in kindness.

The many faces of Muslim women to Turkish weekly journal, United States

Madison, Wi-what is the United States means today in Muslim women? I speak for myself, 400,000 Muslims growing up in the United States women are sharing their experiences of the United States. Struggles and successes of their personal narratives to us in the journey of life we share much more than we often realise above.

For myself, being Muslim, Maria Ebrahimji M. United States women speak: Zahra engaged in edited by T. Suratwala, symbolic and emotional and social considerations related to Muslim women in the United States and growing up in a complex set of readers.

The story of the manifestation of spiritual evolution. On the surface, we read problems, relationships with friends, colleagues, parents, and her husband, but is the expression of the human spirit to travel on a deeper level. This achievement won the adversity in their lives and remind us of the courage within each of us has the potential. As we mature and evolve, we transcend culture awareness of the beauty of life comes to develop towards. For example, if a woman divorced after strength and power of her voice and abuse about finding. Other women's national team during her work on the cultural significance of the conversation.

We are also dealing with how a woman's antics and uptight, she with her parents to read to experience the cultural and generation gap. The other woman struggles to explain how her name, rational, yet another suit (headscarf) describes the hijab worn by the desire to hook the difficulty in determining whether while speaking. Each woman has her own deep creative potential and profound truths about human existence.

Set in the United States and around the world, the United States and more than one country, say for myself and my discussion of Islamic identity. contextualised in This collection of stories, class, religion, ethnicity, history of the race, politics, language, and gender issues in this discussion. I would say for themselves: the human possibilities and illuminate the paradigm Each woman is apparent between religion, politics and societal expectations, and how that anxiety about the interconnectedness that plagued America's identity to the real. One woman saw her at the end of a childhood friend of the United States, not Islam and how, at the time, it almost was proud of her. But if you want to pause in her confusion she felt did not need to choose a Muslim and an American. She can be both.

Another woman in her youth, in the right format, and the Muslim communities of Muslims how she struggled with a fitting. She is the only way Muslims that Islam was not soon there is a wide variety of religions recognized hospitality.

But not only was the childhood or teen challenge. African American women she describes how you feel and what Muslims communities include both within the community, to address discrimination against Muslims, and her desire to be excluded from the Muslims. Other African American women that she adheres to the true Islam, African-American feminist identity frustration I experienced when I tried to. Instead, she accepts the fragmented and contradictory parts of her personality, rather than trying to be like everyone else you decide to.

How each woman s discussion of religious belief and reflects the negotiation of identity variation cover. Every woman's strength and force her to create the myth of repressed Muslim women, it becomes a part of a complex negotiation of resistance model undercuts.

United Kingdom Muslim women start Jihad for violence-Radio Australia

Jihad Islamic women groups ' violence ' has launched a large Islamic women's rights in order to create awareness.

INSPIRE, a group known as their potential to reach aims to help the Muslim women. INSPIRE the term extremist jihad ' in the recall. INSPIRE's Director and co-founder Sarah Kahn struggles and in the way of God, not the so-called ' holy war ' violence perpetrated by extremist groups, meaning ' Jihad '. Ms Khan in her London home, said to me. And her daughter Hannah, sometimes in the background.

Presenter: Sen Lam
Speaker: Sarah Khan, Director of the Islamic women's group c INSPIRE co-founder

Kahn: Jihad for violence is driven by Islamic violence against women, the United Kingdom women and girls and all forms of violence, terrorism and violent extremism in stand by experience: over the past few years, we in the 2005 London bombings and terrorist acts such as witnessed and we also in our society, conflict and tried to sow the extremes of behavior I have witnessed. Islam, peace, to be recognized by faith but instead now has become synonymous with violence, and negative women oppression all things including. last year, almost 70% of the British Muslim women believed it is being conducted to show survey. And we just women, we are no longer in silence and in particular, these crimes have a good faith belief that carrying out the name of the people by crime is used to justify and our faith could sit down to watch. So we think that the campaign and United Kingdom Islam, but who violence, violence against women, Islam has been performed in the name of violence as opposed to the idea of who is very much just echo the campaign begins.

RAM: and Sarah, you say, according to the Quran, Islam empowers women, so that your objectives, as well as women, so that you can use the Quranic scholarship as well as the possibility of including a piece of information?

Kahn: absolutely, so that's why we set up INSPIRE 2009 at one of the primary reasons. We came to it when a woman's role as a good academic literature around, it felt very weak on the ground. I mean, if today many Muslims go to book store, you are there in a matter of finding what in the United Kingdom and the Muslim communities there around the role of women in the governance of the conservative interpretation. We wanted to emphasize that we in the West live in the 21st century and Dr. Khalid Abu Lel Fadl, who is our meeting this weekend, in fact, in the [NULL] came to talk about, including scholars out there, in fact much more we're living in today contextualised time line was an alternative interpretation that Islam empowers women a way of life. And a wide public resources, academic papers and the problem is that the type because it is much more accessible material not really making a difference in the number of access is very keen that we do something.

We believe fundamentally the role of women in peace building, they are in a society where you can create these differences but they are education, need to be teaching of their faith, their son or daughter and again when you say "look at this verse seems to be advocating something" so, you actually can say is "this is what actually means passage."

Just to clarify, it came from some faith does not matter come from what culture we know all women domestic violence occurs, what faith you regardless. Display statistics in the United Kingdom one in four women in domestic violence, he killed two women in this country a week ago suffering from a partner or former partner, so the fact that domestic violence affects all women.

But we have violence against Jihad wanted to emphasize in particular the emphasis and responsibility within our community of Muslim leaders were placed in. Say, "hey look, it's female genital mutilation, honor killings, or honour crimes, whether or not any kind of violence to justify anyone", "Hey, this is unacceptable to say we are no longer"-Unfortunately there who do our community for my part, these problems under the carpet cleaning and understanding of the definition, we need to emphasize the need to address them.

RAM:, Muslim women for domestic life of Malaysia on this subject-modern Muslim country-women's group has set up they call ' obedient wives club ', says wife their husbands should be devoted to even their husbands from straying pretend to stop prostitute in bed. Does exactly what it should say the Quran and their husband to wife obedience?

Kahn: you know, so beautifully marriage and relationships in the Quran talks about. When you know love will find a day, we had to obey her husband Club ' have you ever seen one, but, yes, listen, I can't believe there are women. I think that some conservative interpretation down. They set it, their men having Affairs straying from the fact that prevent you from really women, rather than placing the onus thinking of saying "look, man, you have to control your attitude that you need to change your default desire" really in this era, both men and women when you have a good marriage is one guarantee accountability. Man's heart and marriage between my girls and tranquility. and what will govern marriage, God relationship [NULL] is talking about a very beautiful way.

CHICAGO - Teenager, eighties Malik was very difficult to hide his Muslim heritage.

While some girls of her age has chosen to wear the traditional veil, she opted against it. And when teachers read "Octogenarian" the roll call on the first day of school, she asked them to call his Mariam, she less Muslim and his middle name.

Unable to hide his caramel skin or to overcome his shyness, actress budding and playwright did not audition for a role until his senior year at Niles North High School. She was shocked when she landed the lead.

But what was once a source of shame in his young mind became the inspiration. After putting his trade pending for almost two decades, solo Malik breakout show, "Unveiling", positioned her as one of the increase in the theatre of Chicago stars, critics say.

"When I was teenager, I thought that my color, my religion, my heritage, would prevent me being part of the experience of American Theatre," said Malik, now 34, and a mother of four children. "Now, young Muslims ask me the same things that I used to ask me:" A Muslim can be a theatre artist? ' ". I tell them... "Focus on your business and leave the rest to God." "

As the American Muslim community faces a review plus - hearings on the Capitol Hill hostile neighbours who do not want their nearby worship - Malik builds confidence that it has acquired high school to put aside his self-awareness to realize his dream.

In June, the Goodman Theatre will host a reading of his new play, "The tales of the Mecca", a script commissioned by the Goodman that examines why five Muslim women have decided to make both pilgrimage to Mecca at the moment in their lives.

In addition, his play "Unveiling," about five Muslim women fictive who find their face when inner strength, prejudice and pressure after the terrorist attacks of September 11 was transposed to the public in France, where the wearing of Muslim headscarves have been banned for women working in the public sector.

"Muslims are human beings, they are like everyone else," she said. "I want my writing to show that."

Born in London, Malik moved to Skokie, Illinois and enrolled at Niles North in its first year. She took all the varieties of theatre courses, write poetry and plays, but she has never auditioned for a role acting until his senior year. She decided to audition for a role in a production of the 18th century British "She Stoops to conquer" comedy after a classmate said that the casting of the piece must be white. This comment led to him prove otherwise. She obtained the lead.

She said "I couldn't let break me this statement,". "Theater is a medium who is color blind." I got the lead. It was a sweet victory. »

Drama Professor Timothy Ortmann, who called his former student at the stage of the Niles North in April, watched Malik coming out of his shell in the beginning of the 1990s. Still, he slips and calls its Mariam and recalled the young artist struggles with its identity.

"The magic of the theatre is you can really try on a lot of different masks very quickly and discover things about yourself", he said. "You learn a lot about yourself do seem to be someone else."

While he attended Oakton Community College, Malik donned the traditional Muslim headscarf or hijab.

Since his interest in Islam grew, and his parents never approve aspirations theater anyway, she did not return to the scene and then transferred to DePaul University to major in religious studies.

She married shortly after their graduation and was the first of four children in 2001. Life took another turn on September 11 of that year.

She wore a hat instead of a hijab when she left the House that day here. In the years that followed, she faced a new consciousness of itself on his faith. It has also experienced a vacuum inside.

"In my soul, there was a vacuum," she said. "I tried to think at a time when I was happier in my life." She thought in high school.

Thus, she began to write. Inspired by his own meeting with injury, his first original play "Unveiling" begins at 16th Street Theater in 2009.

His sympathetic portraits of five modern Muslim women have inspired invitations of synagogues, churches and mosques and the members of the public apology which, after seeing the show have re-examined the stereotypes and preconceived notions. The room has also inspired the rave of most critics.

Tanya Palmer, Director of the development of new games for the Goodman Theatre, stated that she looked Malik and his characters evolve since "Unveiling."

"She tries to dig a little deeper, so it is not only with people struggling with their identity, but actually explore that and the complexity of this", said Palmer. "It is what theatre can do." "He gets into how complicated it is to be human".

But the creation of complex characters to represent Islam, which is already widely misunderstood, can be a tricky effort.

"I saw her grappling with their religion in a culture that is in fact actively hostile toward the Muslim faith and to the faithful Muslim or unfamiliar with", said Palmer. "There is often a change for the people who are not well represented on stage, or when they are represented there are negative representations." They feel the pressure to show positive representations only. ... It is an evolution, not only for octogenarian but for playwrights South Asian and Middle East at the United States in General in terms of what they see that their role is. »

Malik returned to his alma mater last month led to dig in his high school Yearbook. Its pages were covered with compliments and forecasts of a career on Broadway.

"It has not yet arrived, but it is my dream," said.

While "Unveiled" prepares a stage in France, it is mainly to introduce the play to an audience of New York on the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks. A colleague recently suggested it would be wrong time and would not listen to New Yorkers.

Malik disagreed.

"I think that they will.", she said. "I would love for my play to be part of the dialogue."
